Recently I found that my site had been taken over and used for spammers, hackers and other sorts. In a relatively short period of time the site was overtaken with ads for drugs, cigarettes and a number of items that promise financial and physical gains.

What a terrific opportunity for me to investigate-

• where they accessed the site? what wide open door was available?
• what securities are available?
• what spamming software could be used?
• how can this be managed?

First response in seeing some 300 odd pages of garbage is the amount of work that will need to be done in removing the material. With that done the site is back up. In going thru this one can only take away the fact that there is much to learn in securing a site, and keeping it and the contents safe.
